Philosophy

Has anyone out there had trouble their freshman year in transitioning from writing High School papers to college level papers? I have, and here's a good story about it: So, I write a paper and send it in for a draft. I get some feedback, and turn it back in. This time, I get the response back that if I don't get the MLA format correct, he'll drop my gade one letter. So, I do my best to fix it, and turn it back in. This time, he tells me to come to his office the next day after class. By the time I read this, I am very nervous, to say the least. After class the next day, I walk with him over to his office. On the way, I asked him if my paper wa sreally that bad. His response: " I wouldn't say it was bad, I believe papers are meant to get you better." In Laman's terms, " "Yes Spenser, it was absolutely terrible." So I spend the next forty-five minutes in his office, listening to him speak. This is on top of the hour and fifteen minute class! And I'm not done either; he says I need to come back on tuesday to go over the rest of the paper, because we only got through the first two paragraphs! So I guess I'm just doomed to remedial writing the rest of my Freshman year. I definately do appreciate the help, though, and hope I can get an A. Oh the joys of college life

Most teachers will give you a break if you are coming to their office to let them ramble on and on, then they feel like you think it is just as important as they do. Take his advice- it can only turn out good for you if he knows you better and thinks you are making an effort.

Well, at least he didn't lower your grade AND you get a little extra help, right?!

I agree with lindsay. Professors like it when they know you are a dedicated student. I remember agonizing over my writing class, too. This too shall pass...

You should Google "MLA" format because I know there are a couple websites out there that help you and that you can enter your references and they give you the correct way to do the reference page and the in paragraph references. (I don't remember the sites because I don't need them anymore!) Anyway it is a great way to do it because who can really remember all those stupid rules?
