The day my dorm exploded

The day started just as any other day, besides the fact that I had just rocked my Book of Mormon final at BYU. I was feeling great, although kinda tired before, because of studying late for said test the night before. I also had to get up early, as the test started at 7. Since I had done so well on my BOM test, I decided to treat myself to a nap for a few extra hours of much needed rest. So, I set my alarm for about 3 hours in the future, and hit the hay. I woke up just about the time my alarm went off, to the screams of my dormates(just kidding, it wasn't that bad) But, Jimmy(my roomate) woke me up, exclaiming that the hall had flooded, and I had better pick up everything off the ground I cared about! I awoke and although bleary eyed, soon found out that there was a pool of water forming on our carpet. After further investigation, and the moving of things off the ground, I found that there was a pool in the hallway, and the proper authority figures had just arrived to take care of the mess. Apparently, a toilet had blown up, sending water three feet in the air, and filling the bathroom, the hall, and our rooms with water. Everyone sloshed into the hall to see this natural wonder, and document it with photographic evidence. My room was farther away, so it did not get the full effect of the river of toilet water, but we definitely got hit by it. I am now even more grateful to be closer to the end of the hall. Soon, they had a subpump and were cleaning up th lake of water. It was certainly one of my more interesting experiences at college thus far

habits

I've gotten into some good, interesting, and absolutely hilarious habits herd at BYU, and I thought my fans would like to hear about them, so I will relate them.

First of all, I've got myself into the habit of yelling at the referees when they make questionable or just downright terrible calls. But, as I have been a referee several times in my life to make a little extra money, I don't boo the way everyone else does. I let them finish their tirade of unhappy boos and then I will yell at the top of my voice, " I strongly disagree!" i figure that if it was me making the call, I wouldn't want to be chastised in a harsh way, by thousands of angry fans, so I made that change.

My favorite habit I've developed over time has to do with my favorite subject in school- girls. For those who don't know, I've met approximately 100 new women here at BYU through various means, and I have a really hard time remembering all of their names. Nevertheless, they can all seem to remember me, partly because of my good looks, partly because of the habit I've gotten into. When I see girls hugging any of my friends,I feel discriminated against. lnstead of continuing to feel this way, I tell them not to be so biased, and move in for my hug. Oftentimes, I will not even know this girl before I hug her, but it doesn't bother me in the least. I will never deny any girl a hug based on a minor detail such as that. It is certainly an ineresting, freakin' awesome habit.

Chronicle of Spenser's rock song

I created a rock song with my good friend and doormmate early this morning, and it's called three Mississippi(you'll realize why if you read "the chronicle of the church or if you were there) I created a lot of the lyrics and singing, while my friend created the background music on garageband, sang some background, as well as some of the lyrics. It is pretty freakin awesome if I do say so myself, so if you want to obtain a copy of it, e-mail me , or call me. Also, if anyone can tell me how top upload songs on this blog or on facebook, please let me know, and I'll post it for your listening pleasure. Also look for our album, A Very Hosin Christmas , coming soon to stores near you.

College dates

I was told by my Resident Adviser that money spent on dates before you go on a mission is money spent on another man's wife. I recognize this as true doctrine, but I will not quit because it's just way too much fun! So I'll continue. I went on a fun date with my cousin Kari on one of the first weekends after school started, and it was a fun, but enexpectedly painful experience.

We went tubing down the Provo River that weekend, and I decided to take a cute girl from my freshman Academy group. I was extremely excited, firstly because I was going with this cute girl, and secondly because I would be meeting Kari's boyfriend. I figured this was my opportunity to pass judgement on him. Plus, Kari and I are pretty tight(even compared to the rest of our family).

We set out on our quest for fun on a warm, September day with smiles on our faces. There was a bit of stress in my life because the girl I had asked did not answer the phone just minutes before we planned to leave(it all worked out, though) So we drove up the canyon and reached our destination. After procuring our life jackets and tubes, we boarded the owner's van, and headed to the place we would begin our float down the river. We were still very excited, and quickly jumped on the tubes when left by the man. Bryon(Kari's boyfriend) and I, started a little behind the two girls, and I had a nice conversation with the guy. He sped ahead a little, so I was left behind a bit, by my self. This is the point I decided to change my position on the tube, which turned out to not be a very good idea, because I soon found myself in the water. I was able to get back on, however, and we continued down the river, talking and laughing, me being a bit more damp. I decided to press my luck a second time , and again found myself in the water, this time, however, the tube escaped my grasp, and I had to try to catch it by running through the rocky river in bare feet, another mistake on my part. Luckily, I was behind the rest, so Bryon was able to corral the tube for me to get back on. We vcontinued on for a while, this time, without hyaving any more trouble. I was floating happily, admiring my dates' beauty, when out of the blue I was in the water again! You can probably imagine how irate I was at this moment. But this time, I was determined not to let that tube go. I held on like someone was trying to steal my doooughnut (mispelled purposefully to sound canadian). The problem with this idea was that the current was strong enough that I could not gain my footing, so I was dragged along those sharp rocks mentioned before, which was not a pleasant experience, I can tell you. I was finally able to shove myself to a side, and got back on. The rest of the trip passed uneventfully, because I made sure to hold on to the others' tubes for protection. I'm swure this outing made me look great to this poor girl who happened to be my date. It was still pretty fun, but I got scratched, bruised, and soggy for my efforts. I sure hope this girl enjoyed herself, cause it was a lot of work and pain for me!

The temple

So I went to the temple today for the first time in my college career today. It was a great experience, but I felt kinda dumb cause I have never been to any temple besides the Monticello for an extended amount of time, let alone for baptisms. I was pretty confused because the layout was completely different from what I'm used to. For those of you who know me, you know I'm not the best with directions, so I was a bit disoriented in this new place.I even tried to go in the ladies locker room(not on purpose of course, I was just following a girl that came with the group). I also had some interesting experiences in baptism and confirmation. Such as: I was confirmed for a Pope( His last name was Pope, tricked ya, didn't I?) I also learned they like to do things a lot faster here in Provo than I'm used to(which is a good thing, or else I'd have been there a heck of a lot longer). They were poppin kids in and out of the water faster than I've ever seen! Overall, it was a fantastic way to start out the morning, and I hope that added spirituality shows on my Book of Mormon test, which I took immediately following my adventures. Cross your fingers!

Philosophy

Has anyone out there had trouble their freshman year in transitioning from writing High School papers to college level papers? I have, and here's a good story about it: So, I write a paper and send it in for a draft. I get some feedback, and turn it back in. This time, I get the response back that if I don't get the MLA format correct, he'll drop my gade one letter. So, I do my best to fix it, and turn it back in. This time, he tells me to come to his office the next day after class. By the time I read this, I am very nervous, to say the least. After class the next day, I walk with him over to his office. On the way, I asked him if my paper wa sreally that bad. His response: " I wouldn't say it was bad, I believe papers are meant to get you better." In Laman's terms, " "Yes Spenser, it was absolutely terrible." So I spend the next forty-five minutes in his office, listening to him speak. This is on top of the hour and fifteen minute class! And I'm not done either; he says I need to come back on tuesday to go over the rest of the paper, because we only got through the first two paragraphs! So I guess I'm just doomed to remedial writing the rest of my Freshman year. I definately do appreciate the help, though, and hope I can get an A. Oh the joys of college life
